SONG LYRICS FOR CREATIVE PROJECT

COLD PLAY-YELLOW
Look at the stars,
Look how they shine for you,
And everything you do,
Yeah they were all yellow,

I came along
I wrote a song for you
And all the things you do
And it was called yellow

So then I took my turn
Oh all the things I've done
And it was all yellow

Your skin
Oh yeah your skin and bones
Turn into something beautiful
D'you know you know I love you so
You know I love you so

I swam across
I jumped across for you
Oh all the things you do
Cause you were all yellow

I drew a line
I drew a line for you
Oh what a thing to do
And it was all yellow

Your skin
Oh yeah your skin and bones
Turn into something beautiful
D'you know for you i bleed myself dry
For you i bleed myself dry

Its true look how they shine for you
look how they shine for you
look how they shine for you
look how they shine for you
look how they shine for you
look how they shine
look at the stars look how they shine for you

Song Analysis 3
CALlLING ALL CARS
In the song “Calling All Cars” by Senses Fail the singer, Buddy, is expressing how he feels in his current relationship, and his reasons for ending it. The song is catchy and upbeat yet the lyrics have a lot more depth than many may realize. The lyrics hint to suicide and that is where the title “Calling all cars” comes into play. This phrase is used by police officers when a tragic accident has occurred and all men must report to the scene. The first two lines of the song start off saying “calling all cars, we’ve got another victim,” which obviously is a symbol for a tragedy that took place due to a lack of love. The ironic part is that his girlfriend loves him; however he has no love inside of himself to give, so he turns to suicide to escape from hurting those closest to him. It does not make sense to want to kill yourself because you can’t love, but to Buddy it is enough and he just can’t take it anymore. This selfish yet ironic act is what adds to the depth of the song which makes it much more meaningful then perceived.
Senses Fail is a talented band with a knack for writing songs that contain a deeper meaning. This particular song may seem like a normal break up tragedy, yet the context clues point in another direction. Buddy turns to suicide when he realizes that he does not “have love left inside”, this seems like a irrational thing to kill yourself for but it’s enough considering this feeling has “been building since I have been breathing” making him unable to cope with the situation anymore. This is extremely upsetting to his girlfriend but all he can respond with is “what did you expect from me?” He continues to defend himself and says “I kept my word when I swore that I would let you down.” He is making an attempt to shoulder all the blame on her, this is selfish. Again he makes this decision because he is loveless, the girl is misunderstanding and she refuses to let go, yet Buddy is persistent by saying “try to forget me and just move on.” He is being selfish and irrational by making this decision but of course does not realize it. This song is upsetting because if Buddy “knew all along” that this was going to happen he should have never gotten close to this girl and than pushed the blame on her for the fallout. He “lied” at his very first confession” and made her believe he would always stay. When she calls him out on this, he replies with “I am not the one that you should blame, so take what I left you for the pain.” Not having love to give is a poor excuse for causing someone this much pain, and to pin them with the blame, well that is just ridiculous. Despite all the singers’ incredibly selfish choices, this song is very meaningful, deep and well produced.
This piece is very bold in terms of song writing, yet it is almost poetic. The lyrics sound like a suicide letter to the girl he is leaving. He is giving all his excuses for suicide and is spilling his heart out in hopes of having her understand the feelings that led him to make this decision. Aside from making this song sound like a letter, there are other techniques used to make it poetically beautiful. There is a significant symbol in the line “Its curtain call and I’m about to take my last bow” which foreshadows his suicide attempt. “It’s curtain call” means that it is time, and “I’m about to take my last bow” means this is the last moment of his life. The mood of this song is depressing due to the melancholy lyrics however the music is upbeat. There are two similar consonances in the lyrics which end the same but start out differently. “And now that I’m gone, try to forget me and just move on”, obviously, gone and on both end the same making this line a form of repetition. Also, “but you knew all along, try to forget me and just move on” is a form of repetition to. Along with repetition, mood and symbols, the song itself sounds like poetry. It is a very repetitive song and most ending words rhyme with each other making the song more catchy and easy to follow along wit. It holds up as a beautifully written song and piece of music that many have come to appreciate and enjoy.
This song relates to my theme and genre because it can be played as acoustic, and because the singers’ out look on life is suicidal. There are many songs out there that focus on the subject of depression but to take something as far as suicide is serious. Suicide is a very irrational decision and to blame someone you love for their hurt is incredibly inconsiderate. If he has “known all along” that he would eventually kill himself, why would he stay with the girl and pin her with the blame? He has a selfish out look on life and is obviously only thinking about himself. Typical guy. He has no consideration for how the girl feels and continues on with his decision. Though this is a beautiful acoustic song the lyrics are just preposterous. Buddy looks at life in a negative light causing him to have no love left. Maybe if he tried a new perspective, he could find love and move on. This song may be upsetting in some aspects but many can relate to it and that is what makes a song succeed in the long run.
Buddy may be a melancholy pessimist, but he does write and record music that is well respected all over the country. This song was a major hit when it came out and it was highly applauded by the bands die hard fans. This song has proven itself worthy despite the negativity that is beaming off of it, to some people that is why it is loved so much. To each his own. Buddy may have written and produced the most selfish suicidal song ever made, but it worked. It sounds even better played in acoustic and all should give it a listen someday and truly experience the heart and soul that was put into making this song.

Song Analysis 3 LYRICS

CALLING ALL CARS - SENSES FAIL

Calling all cars we've got another victim,
'Cause my love has become an affliction,
What did you expect from me? What did you expect from me?

I'm sorry but I* THINK I failed to mention
That I lied at my very first confession
What did you expect from me? Well What did you expect from me?

'Cause this has been building since I have been breathing,
And I know how it's going to end.

So will you scatter my ashes where they won't be found?
I kept my word when I swore that I would let you down.
(And now that I'm gone) Try to forget me and just move on.
So will you scatter my ashes where they won't be found?
I kept my word and you hate me for it now,
(But you knew all along) Try to forget me and just move on.

Oh my dear what have I gone and done now?
It's curtain call, I'm about to take my last bow.
What did you expect from me? Well what did you expect from me?

Without giving away the entire ending,
I ruined the evening again.

I don't, have love left inside, inside.
And I don't, have love left inside, inside.

Are you desperate for an answer?
I don't have an ounce of good left in me now,
Thats why I walked out.

So will you scatter my ashes where they won't be found?
I kept my word when I swore that I would let you down.
(And now that I'm gone) Try to forget me and just move on.
So will you scatter my ashes where they won't be found?
I kept my word and you hate me for it now,
(You hate me for it now) Try to forget me and just move on.

I am not the one that you should blame,
So take what I left you for the pain.
I am not the one that you should blame,
So take what I left you for the pain.
And do your best to forget my name.

CREATIVE PROJECT

THE SONG I CHOOSE DO TO MY CREATIVE PROJECT IS YELLOW BY COLDPLAY. I LOVE THIS SONG SO I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA TO EXPRESS THE MEANING OF IT THROUGH A PAINTING. IM NOT GOOD A PAINTING SO HOPEFULLY IT WILL COME OUT OK. IM DOING A MONTAGE, WHICH IS A PAINTING USING ONLY ONE COLOR, BUT DIFFERENT SHADES OF IT. IM OBVIOUSLY USING THE COLOR YELLOW. THE OVER ALL PAINTING WILL BE BASED ON LOVE, LOSS AND SACRIFICE FOR SOMEONE YOU LOVE. SO FAR I HAVE DECIDED TO PAINT A ROAD HEADING TOWARDS A BEAUTIFUL HORIZON (WHICH WILL SYMBOLIZE HEAVEN) WITH TWO PEOPLE WALKING ON IT. ONE WILL BE ALIVE AND ONE BE SORT OF GHOST LIKE TO SYMBOLIZE HOW THE MAN SACRIFICED HIMSELF IN ORDER TO MAKE THE PERSONS JOURNEY TO HEAVEN EASIER. THIS IS MY MAIN IDEA FOR RIGHT NOW I MAY CHANGE MY MIND.

SOCIETY SONG #2

EVER GREER- I WANT SOMETHING

she's sittin in a bathroom stall
with a marker in her hand
scribbling down the words to her favorite song
by her favorite bandand she hopes someone will read them
and maybe they'll understand
how it feels to care so much it hurts
to fight so hard you shake
to love so intensely that it scares you
to build so much that something breaks
she knows that she's not the only one
but sometimes it sure feels that way
in a little college town in Ohio
so there's a song that she sings everyday
I want something
that's better than this.
and i'm not sure exactly what it is
but i think that we could build it
if we try togetherAnd if we all sing...
And 500 miles away, down I-70there's a boy sitting in a room
full of patches and PCP
and the kids all drink the same beer
and they talk about anarchy
and he wonders if he's the only one
who remembers what that used to mean?
and the punk-rock band plays on
long into the night
these days the girls with the empty eyes
hardly even put up a fight
and he watches as his friends give up
and slowly start to die
sticking needles in their arms
because punk-rock boys never cry,
and he sings:I want something
that's better than this.
and i'm not sure exactly what it is
but i think that we could build it
if we try together
And if we all sing...and that very same night
kids all across the earth
felt lonely and confused
frightened and unsureand we're trying to find one another
through a system that keeps us apart
to match the weapons that we hold in our fists
with the passion that we carry in our hearts
and we know it's gonna take a long time
and we know that we'll fuck up along the way
but i've got a feeling that we're winning
as i hear more and more and more of us say:
I want somethingthat's better than this.
and i'm not sure exactly what it is
but i think that we could build it
if we try together And if we all sing...

This song is about society and it's lack of care for our generation of kids. The singer and song writer, Ever Greer, sings about kids across America who reach out for help but find nothing ...they also try to find each other "through a system that keeps them apart" making it impossible for these kids to find closure. He writes about two specific people, a boy and girl and he focuses on what they expierencing right now as teenagers growing up in a generation of anarchy, how ever anarchy has died out and the boy "wonders if he is the only one who remembers what it really means". This is kind of like civil disobiedience and it is not a fierce and bold as the other song i analyzed. This one focuses more on specific details of teenagers who struggle to keep their lives in order, however the socity we live in prevents them from doing so. During the chorus Ever comes up with a plan to do something about the world that is falling apart around them, he does not know exactly what the plan is yet, but he "thinks that we can build it if we try together and we will sing" This song is sending a strong social message to teens across the country that are searching for an answer. He knows what it feels like to feel lost and alone and by singing this song he is trying desperately to reach out to them and let them know that there is hope.

SOCIETY SONG #1

Mutiny! SET YOUR GOALS

This is a full blown assault, A cannon blast to mark your fall.
Take back your discipline now, This is a genuine revolt.
Superior, you are inferior. We've risen like we've never, never risen above before.
Conformity has no authority. I can agree to compromise. Contemptible are your contracts.
I will find the line and cross it every time. Contemptible are your labels.
This is a full blown assault!Take back your discipline now. This is a genuine revolt.
I am far from, so far from romanced. There's too much business in this;
I'm going back to my garage. I have been completely disenchanted.
Turn my amp up to eleven; six nickel wound strings have saved me again.
Suits and ties are not to congregate in my sanctuary, judged only by my hands.
Down here is our time; it's innocent, yeah, and it is so divine.
Our music: rewrite not a single line. Down here is our time and we will shine.
Our music: making wishes on your dime this time.Heroes have betrayed.
We sing for better days. Don't sign our lives away,to impure industries.
You're going under! We have come to take it over!So sound the thunder!
We have come to take it over!NOW! Sign our band and we'll write you a chorus.
We will use your gimmicks if you think they will sell us.
'Cause we won't survive without your acceptance. Can we be friends?
Can we be friends? Can! We! Be! Friends!? Mutiny!
In this vast network of sharks and minnows, where the minnows outnumber the sharks a million to one, why is it that we have yet to converge? To take on the upper hand? Why have we been so scared?Well not today, not anymore. This is us growing up, still young, but no longer impressionable. We have come to pillage! We have come to burn!We have come to incite the riot!We have come to take it over!
Heroes have betrayed. We sing for better days. Don't sign our lives away,to impure industries.

This song is definatly a social message. It is all about revolting against society and standing up for yourself and the people around you. It is about being forced to live on the bottom but soon rising to the top. The singers of this song sing about rising up against rules, regulations and the "norm" way of life. They form a large group and start to rebel. They are insulting past "heros" of the music industrie who have sold out and become unoriginal. They refuse to end up that way and "sign our lives away to impure industries". They decide that NOW is the time to make a stance and stand up for what they believe in. They mock the industries that are fake and that change bands for popularity, "We will use your gimmicks if you think they will sell us, can we be friends?" This lane is a mockery of the buisness that changed the music industry by using gimmicks to sell music. By the end of the song they express how there is way more of them than there are authority and they now are going to stand up and stop waiting around, "In this vast network of sharks and minos, where the minos out number the sharks, why is it that we have yet to converge, well not today." Clearly they are ready to do whatever it takes to overtake the "sharks" and "incite the riot." Even though they are still young kids they are "no longer impressionable" and they can think for themselves and decide what is right to them.

IMAGERY 2

BRAND NEW
THE QUIET THINGS THAT NOONE EVER KNOWS
SIGHT
We saw the western coast
I saw the hospital
Nursed the shoreline like a wound
Reports of lover's tryst
Were neither clear nor descript
We kept it safe and slow
The quiet things that no one ever knows
So keep the blood in your head
And keep your feet on the ground
If today's the day it gets tired
Today's the day we drop out
Gave up my body and bed
All for an empty hotel
Wasting words on lower cases and capitals
I contemplate the day we wed
Your friends are boring me to death
Your veil is ruined in the rain
By then it's you I can do without
There's nothing new to talk about
And though our kids are blessed
Their parents let them shoulder all the blame
So keep the blood in your head
And keep your feet on the ground
If today's the day it gets tired
Today's the day we drop out
Gave up my body and bed
All for an empty hotel
Wasting words on lower cases and capitals
I lie for only you
And I lie well...Hallelu...
This song is about the memories they share together as a couple
"We saw the western coast, we saw the hospital"
Although she loves him, he does not love her the same.
"The quiet things that noone ever knows"
Nobody knows that he does not love her, but he knows that sooner or later they will end in disaster. For now he is just pushing through it.
"So keep the blood in your head, and your feet on the ground"
He is thinking about the day he marry's her and how her friends will "bore him to death".
Also when they have children "though they are blessed they will shoulder all the blame"
Meaning that they will get blmaed for the parents relationship falling apart even though its not them at all.
he is staying with her to make her happy yet he is miserable.
"I lie for only you"
This is a sad song but it proves what people are willing to go through to make people they care about happy. He is lying to everyone around him ,expect himsef. He can see their future together and he knows it is not bright yet he stays.

IMAGERY # 1

THE EARLY NOVMEBER
BABY BLUE LYRICS
SIGHT

It's a faster, growing green
Flows through these leaves
I have, I try, I guess we'll be alright
Way to try, I got a line For you from me, better nice
A beautiful, baby blue,
Sky that's looking up at you
Now watch it fade away
But it's okay We'll come around
With nights like this are never ending
I try so hard to make this perfect
You and I somehow
We can't see eye to eye together
We always knew that you worked better
I know you want it all
And you got me
Sorry I never was everything you ever dreamed
But kept at bay, for just in case that day
But it's okay We'll come around
With nights like this are never ending I try so hard to make this perfect
You and I somehow
We can't see eye to eye together
We always knew that you worked better
I don't want you to love me anymore
With my bags packed and ready to go
And nothing's ever hurt so much for me
To let you go, than to let you go
My bags packed and ready to go
And nothing's ever hurt so much for me
To let you go, to let you go

This song is about being in a relationship where you are not being apprecaited.
"I try so hard to make this perfect"
Basiclly the girl is tringin you along until she finds someone better.
"I know you want it all. but you got me"
She critizes everything her boyfriend does and does not really love him.
"we always knew that you worked better"
He feels the struggle and distance and is sick of it.
"we can't see eye to eye together"
He realizes he must move on and let her go.
"I dont want you to love me anymore"
He is very upset and hurt by this realization but he has done his fair share of trying and it obviously is back firering in his face. It is time to move on and though "nothings ever hurt so much..." he still lets her go because he knows that this half hearted realtionship can't go on anymore. The girl has a perfect image of him that is not real.
"It's a faster growin green" means there realtionship is fading faster then the change of the season. Baby blue represents the perfect sky that is also fading along with their realtionship.

Song Analysis 2 lyrics

Yellow-Coldplay
Look at the stars,
Look how they shine for you,
And everything you do,
Yeah they were all yellow,

I came along
I wrote a song for you
And all the things you do
And it was called yellow

So then I took my turn
Oh what a thing to have done
And it was all yellow

Your skin
Oh yeah your skin and bones
Turn into something beautiful
You know you know I love you so
You know I love you so

I swam across
I jumped across for you
Oh what a thing to do
Cause you were all yellow

I drew a line
I drew a line for you
Oh what a thing to do
And it was all yellow

Your skin
Oh yeah your skin and bones
Turn into something beautiful
You know for you I'd bleed myself dry
For you I'd bleed myself dry

It's true look how they shine for you
Look how they shine for you
Look how they shine for...
Look how they shine for you
Look how they shine for you
Look how they shine

Look at the stars look how they shine for you
And all the things that you do

Found Poem

The songs used were erverlong by the foo fighters, cigarette by yellowcard and where ever you will go by the calling
(The poem is about going away to war)

War
The days are burning out
Til im going and you find
Just quite how
You can make it on your own
Myabe ill find out
How you wanted it to be
You've got to promise
To still go on
And ill hold you in with my heart
Throught the darkest of my days
I hope someday
I can make it back to you
If a greater wave shall fall
I will long for your love evermore

Repitition of Sounds

Incubus-Mexcio

You could see me reaching
So why couldn't you have met me half way?
You could see me bleeding and you would not put pressure on the wound
you only think about yourself you only think about yourself
you better bend before I go on the next train to Mexico

You could see me breathing
And you still kept your hand over my mouth
You could feel me seething
But you just turned your nose up in the air
you only think about yourself you only think about yourself
you better bend before I go on the next train to Mexico

Seether- Broken

I wanted you to know I love the way you laugh
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain away
I keep your photograph, I know it serves me well
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain'
Cause I'm broken when I'm open
And I don't feel like I am strong enough'
Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away
The worst is over now and we can breathe again
I wanna hold you high, you steal my pain away
There's so much left to learn, and no one left to fight
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain
'Cause I'm broken when I'm open
And I don't feel like I am strong enough
'Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away

ANAPHORAS & EPISTROPHES

In "The Acoustic Song" by Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, there is a anaphora in one part...

When I see your smile tears roll down my face I can't replace .And now that I'm strong I have figured out how this world turns cold and it breaks through my soul, and I know ill find deep inside me, I can be the one.I will never let you fall I'll stand up for you forever ill be there for you through it all, even if saving you sends me to heaven.Seasons are changing and waves are crashing and stars are falling all for us days grow longer and nights grow shorterI can show you I'll be the one.I will never let you fall I'll stand up for you forever.I'll be there for you through it all, even if saving you sends me to heaven.Cause you're myyou're my my true lovemy whole heartplease don't throw that away.Cause I'm here, for you please don't walk away and please tell me you'll stay, stay...Use me as you will pull my strings just for a thrill and I know ill be okay though my skies are turning gray.I will never let you fall I'll stand up for you forever I'll be there for you through it all even if saving you sends me to heaven.
These two lines are anaphoras because they both repeat the same word at the beggining.
These anaphors enhance the song by adding emotion and it helps the listener understand how it feels to need someone. It doesnt detract anything.
In "The Saddest Song" by The Ataris, there are some epistrophes,
Only two more days, until your birthdayYesterday was mine You'll be turning five I know what it's like, growing up without your father in your life So I pretend, I'm doing all I can And I hope someday you'll find it in your heart To understand Why I'm not around And forgive me for not being in your life I remember waiting For you to come Remember waiting For you to call Remember waiting there to find nothing at all I remember waiting For you to come Remember waiting For you to call Waiting there to find nothing at all maybe someday you really get to know menot just the letters read to you I pray I get the chance To make it up to you We got a lot of catching up to do So I pretend, I'm doing all I can And hope someday you'll find it in your heart To understand Why I'm not aroundAnd forgive me for not being in your life I remember waiting For you to come Remember waiting For you to call Remember waiting there to find nothing at all I remember waiting For you to come Remember waiting For you to call Waiting there to find nothing at all Forgive me!I'm so sorry!I will make it up to you....
These are epistrophes because they repeat the word "waiting" often throughout these lines.
Repeating the line "I remember waiting" enhances the song because it's explainin what this person had to though while "waiting" for his father to come back. It helps the listening relate to the song and the lyrics ecspecially if they have gone thruogh something like this themselves. Everyone is waiting for something whether it's a person or not, waiting when you know its useless is tough to do but it shows that people don't give up when things are improtnat to them.

METAPHORS ! Greenday- Time of Your life "Good Riddance"

Another turning point; a fork stuck in the road. Time grabs you by the wrist;directs you where to go.So make the best of this testand don't ask why. It's not a questionbut a lesson learned in time. It's something unpredictablebut in the end it's right.I hope you had the time of your life.So take the photographsand still frames in your mind.Hang it on a shelfIn good health and good time.Tattoos of memoriesand dead skin on trial. For what it's worth,it was worth all the while. It's something unpredictablebut in the end it's right.I hope you had the time of your lifeIt's something unpredictablebut in the end it's right.I hope you had the time of your life. It's something unpredictablebut in the end it's right.I hope you had the time of your life.

This song realtes to my theme and genre because the singer's perspective on life is upbeat and kind of positive. He knows that life is unpredictable but you have to take it as it comes and enjoy it while it lasts. I like this perspective because it's mellow and it goes with the flow of life. The two first lines in the first verse are metaphors. "Another turning point ,a fork stuck in the road, time grabs you by the wrist, directs you were to go", this is a metaphor because there are turning points in life but there are not literal forks stuck in the road to split our direction of life. Also, time does not literally grab you by the wrist and direct you were to go, but time does give us a limit and if we do not realize this we will get lost. This song is all about how life keeps moving on no matter what you do and the best way to live is to accpet change and " have the time of your life". These two metaphors describe how life waits for noone but if you live it the right way time will be on your side and you will have fun and enjoy the time you have.

METAPHOR 2 !Incubus- Pardon Me

Pardon me while I burst...A decade ago, I never thought I would be,at twenty-three, on the verge of spontaneous combustion. -Woe-is-me.-But I guess that it comes with the territory,An ominous landscape of never-ending calamity.I need you to hear, I need you to seethat I have had all I can take andexploding seems like an imminent possibilityto me.So pardon me while I burstinto flames.I've had enough of the worldand its people's mindless games. So pardon me while I burnand rise above the flame.Pardon me, pardon me...I'll never be the same! Not two days ago,I was having a lookin a bookand I saw a picture of a guyfried up above his knee.I said, "I can relate,"cause lately I've been thinking of combusticationas a welcome vacation fromthe burdens ofthe planet Earth.like gravity, hypocrisy, and the perils of being in 3-D...but thinking so much differently. Pardon me while I burstinto flames.I've had enough of the worldand its people's mindless games. So pardon me while I burnand rise above the flame.Pardon me, pardon me...I'll never be the same!Never be the same, yeah...Pardon me, while I burst into flames...Pardon me, pardon me, pardon me.So pardon me while I burstinto flames.I've had enough of the worldand its people's mindless games. So pardon me while I burnand rise above the flame.Pardon me, pardon me...I'll never be the same!Never be the same, yeahh!!

This song realtes to me theme and genre because the singers perspective on life is very pesimistic! He is talking about being young (23) and being on the verge of combustion because the world is a "burden" and the people in it play "mindless games". He wants to leave the world and escape from all the tradegy and harm it has to offer. The first metaphor in the lyrics are "An ominous landscape of never-ending calamity", he is descrbing what the world looks like to him. This line means he is seeing a landscape or never ending desolation and tradgey. The second metaphor is "Pardon me while i burst into flames", he says this because he is complating bursting into flames and disappearing, which is obviously impossible but he wishes he could do it to get away from the world and the troubles it burdens us with. The third line says " Pardon me while i burn and rise above the flames", this is a reference to a pheonix. A pheonix is a mythical bircd said to live 500 years, burst into flames and than rise from the ashes as a newborn. This metaphor describes how he wants to burst into falmes much like the bird, and rise above them meaning come out a new person, refreshed with a new start. He is coming out restored after suffereing great calamity. This is a really good metaphor because it's a comparison to a creature that the singer is jealous of because he wishes he could do that, unfortunatly it is impossible. Those are th eonly metaphores but they are really good ones!

SIMILIE ! A Loss For Words- All Roads Lead Home

I climbed to the top of this mountain with no fear of tumbling down. for one brief moment in time i freed my mind of this town. got clear sight of lights on the hills just outside the city's grip and just like that i let the moment sleep.

every face seems familiar on these crowded streets,
Sidewalks sway to the beat of my stammering feet,
Lost in a world of handshakes and receipts,
I hear a song it's calling out to me.

The people are aligned on the road like candle pins.
Wobbling above gutters humming old retired hymns.
Can't you see it's all a cavalcade of delusion stares and
Just like that we are prone to disappear.

[chorus]

Whats the price that you pay for living everyday like a number on a docket, a dollar to be saved? whats the price you pay when you give yourself away with swollen fists in your pocket, from the workhouse to your grave?

Let's pray we don't end up this way

This song only has two similes but it relates very well to my theme and genre. Unfortunately i cannot figure out how to get this song on my play list :( Anyways, it relates to my theme and genre because it's acoustic of course and the perspective on life is very different than most of these other songs. The singer's perspective on life has to do with how he views the world in a neg. way and he hopes that he never end up like that because it is monotone and boring. He says that "the people are aligned on the road like candle pains", meaning that they resemble robots who don't think for themselves and they are just going about their lives like they think they're supposed to instead of how they want to. He is describing the unfortunate and scary realization about people in the world and how they are all the same because they are so caught up. In the next verse he says "Whats the price that you pay for living everyday like a number on a docket", the singer is asking rhetorical question about the price you pay for living. By this he means that people give up their lives to live "live a number on a docket" which means that you live your life referred to as just another number not as a real person. Those are the only two similes.

SIMILIE 2 !Sometime Around Midnight

This song is by Toxic Airborn Event and it's called "Sometime Around Midnight"

And it starts, sometime around midnight. Or at least that’s when you lose yourselffor a minute or two. As you stand, under the bar lights .And the band plays some songabout forgetting yourself for a while. And the piano’s this melancholy soundtrack to her smile. And that white dress she’s wearingyou haven’t seen her for a while.
But you know, that she’s watching. She’s laughing, she’s turning. She’s holding her tonic like a cross. The room’s suddenly spinning. She walks up and asks how you are. So you can smell her perfume. You can see her lying naked in your arms.
And so there’s a change, in your emotions. And all these memories come rushing like feral waves to your mind. Of the curl of your bodies, like two perfect circles entwined And you feel hopeless and homelessand lost in the haze of the wine.
Then she leaves, with someone you don’t know. But she makes sure you saw her. She looks right at you and bolts. As she walks out the door, your blood boiling your stomach in ropes .Oh and when your friends say,“What is it? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
Then you walk, under the streetlights. And you’re too drunk to notice, that everyone is staring at you. You just don’t care what you look like, the world is falling around you.
You just have to see her. You just have to see her. You just have to see her. You just have to see her. You just have to see her. You know that she’ll break you in two.

I really like this song , there are alot of similies in the lyrics and the acoustic verison helps the song to fit in my genre. It's a little hard to relate to my genre but the singers perspective on life could revolve around this girl. He is awe stricken when he sees her for the first time in a while and she obviously is having a major impact on him. He does not care about anything going on around him because he is so wrapped in seeing this girl who he knows will "break him in two". It's a sad song but the similies in it are perfect for this assignment. I put in bold all the similies ,the first one is "she's holding her tonic like a cross", meaning that she is gripping the drink with a firm hand almost as a means of support because she see's her ex-boyfriend. She gets nervous and holds on tight to the drink as if it would somehow magiclly give her strenght like a cross would. In the next verse there are two more simlies "like feral waves to your mind" and "like two perfect circles entwinded". Feral waves to your mind mean wild thoughts occuring in your mind, or in the singers case a feral memories coming out of nowhere and taking over. Two perfect cicrles entwinded means that there bodies fit together like puzzle pieces and he is remembering this because the feral memories rushing into his mind make him remember. The last similie in this song is "you look like you've seen a ghost" , obviously he didn't see a real ghost but he saw his ex girl friend and to him she resembles a ghost because she is able to stop him in his path and make him feel emotionaly unstable. This is a really good song in my opinion and the lyrics are well written with a ton of similies :)

Lyrics to Soco Amaretto Lime

"Soco Amaretto Lime"

Passed out on the overpass
Sunday best and broken glass
Broken down from the bikes and bars
Suspended like spirits over speeding cars
You and me were kings over the parkway tonight
And tonight will go on forever while we
walk around this town like we own the streets
and stay awake through summer like we own the heat
Singing "everybody wake up (wake up) it's time to get down"
(everybody, everybody wake up its time to get down)
And when I pass the bottle back to Pete
on the overpass tonight, I bet we laugh

I'm gonna stay eighteen forever (cut me open)
So we can stay like this forever (sun poisoned)
And we'll never miss a party (this offer...)
cause we keep them going constantly (...stands forever)
And we'll never have to listen (new haircut)
to anyone about anything (new bracelet)
cause it's all been done and it's all been said (eyeliner)
we're the coolest kids and we take what we can get

The hell out of this town
Find some conversation
The low fuel lights been on for days
It doesn't mean anything
I've got another 500, 'nother 500 miles
before we shut this engine down,
we shut it down

I'm gonna stay eighteen forever (cut me open)
So we can stay like this forever (sun poisoned)
And we'll never miss a party (this offer...)
cause we keep them going constantly (...stands forever)
And we'll never have to listen (new haircut)
to anyone about anything (new bracelet)
cause it's all been done and it's all been said (eyeliner)
we're the coolest kids and we take what we can get (wait forever)

(you're just jealous cause I'm young and in love)
Eighteen forever (first kisses)
(your stomach's filled up but you're starved for conversation)
So we can stay like this forever (new stitches)
(you're spending all your nights growing old in your bed)
And we'll never miss a party (collar weekend)
(and your tearin up your photos cause you wanna forget... it's over)
cause we keep them going constantly (appearance ticket)
(you're just jealous cause I'm young and in love)
And we'll never have to listen (November to...)
(your stomach's filled up but you're starved for conversation)
to anyone about anything cause it's all been done (...remember)
(you're spending all your nights growing old in your bed)
and it's all been said (nightswimmers)
(and your tearin up your photos cause you wanna forget... it's over)
we're the coolest kids and we take what we can get

Just jealous cause we're young and in love
You're just jealous cause we're young and in love
You're just jealous cause we're young and in love
You're just jealous cause we're young and in love
You're just jealous cause we're young and in love
You're just jealous...

Swing Life Away

Swing Life Away :Rise Against
"Am I loud and clear or am I breaking up?Am I still your charm or am I just bad luck? Are we getting closer, are we just getting more lost?I'll show you mine if you show me yours firstLet's compare scars I'll tell you whose is worseLet's unwrite these pages and replace them with our own words[Chorus]We live on front porches and swing life awayWe get by just fine here on minimum wage If love is a labor I'll slave 'til the endI won't cross these streets until you hold my hand I've been here so long; think that its time to moveThe winter's so cold summer's over too soonso let's pack our bags and settle down where palm trees growI've got some friends, some that I hardly knowBut we've had some times I wouldn't trade for the worldWe chase these days down with talks of the places that we will go[Chorus]We live on front porches and swing life awayWe get by just fine here on minimum wage If love is a labor I'll slave 'til the endI won't cross these streets until you hold my hand, until you hold my handI'll show you mine if you show me yours firstLet's compare scars I'll tell you whose is worseLet's unwrite these pages and replace them with our own words[Chorus]We live on front porches and swing life awayWe get by just fine here on minimum wage If love is a labor I'll slave 'til the endI won't cross these streets until you hold my handSwing life awaySwing life awaySwing life awaySwing life away"

The first song on my play list is "Swing Life Away" by Rise Against. To me this song holds a very meaningful perspective on life because it shows the importance of love over money. The writer wants to focus his life around happiness rather than money and this is a dream of his. He is obviously having some relationship problems "am i still your charm or am i just bad luck" but he is willing to do whatever it takes to fix things and make them better " i wont cross these streets until you hold my hand". His perspective on life through this acoustic song expresses the things in life that hold meaning to him. His love, his friendships and his happiness. Money is not a factor, "we get by just fine here on minimum wage" this shows just how unimportant materialistic things are to him. He wants to live somewhere warm so he can settle down with his girlfriend and "swing life away", meaning live simply day by day with no complications or worries. He feels fulfilled with the life he has lead and the people that have impacted him "Ive got some friends, some that i hardly know but we've had some times i wouldn't trade for the world". Though his experiences may not have been the most extravagant is does not matter because he was happy during those times and he would not trade those friends or good times for anything.
Now he is willing to give everything up just to make his girlfriend happy "if love is a labor I'll slave til the end" and by doing this he wants to pack up and move "where palm trees grow"..he is determine to take her away from the miserable life in the cold and create her a happy simple life where they can grow old together and focus on love.
I think this is a very good acoustic song for this theme because it's different from the usual perspectives today that focus on money, fame and worthless things. The song writer is expressing the importance of love over money and friendships over fame through lyrics that prove them to be a better life style because they are genuine feelings.
