SOCIETY SONG #2

EVER GREER- I WANT SOMETHING

she's sittin in a bathroom stall
with a marker in her hand
scribbling down the words to her favorite song
by her favorite bandand she hopes someone will read them
and maybe they'll understand
how it feels to care so much it hurts
to fight so hard you shake
to love so intensely that it scares you
to build so much that something breaks
she knows that she's not the only one
but sometimes it sure feels that way
in a little college town in Ohio
so there's a song that she sings everyday
I want something
that's better than this.
and i'm not sure exactly what it is
but i think that we could build it
if we try togetherAnd if we all sing...
And 500 miles away, down I-70there's a boy sitting in a room
full of patches and PCP
and the kids all drink the same beer
and they talk about anarchy
and he wonders if he's the only one
who remembers what that used to mean?
and the punk-rock band plays on
long into the night
these days the girls with the empty eyes
hardly even put up a fight
and he watches as his friends give up
and slowly start to die
sticking needles in their arms
because punk-rock boys never cry,
and he sings:I want something
that's better than this.
and i'm not sure exactly what it is
but i think that we could build it
if we try together
And if we all sing...and that very same night
kids all across the earth
felt lonely and confused
frightened and unsureand we're trying to find one another
through a system that keeps us apart
to match the weapons that we hold in our fists
with the passion that we carry in our hearts
and we know it's gonna take a long time
and we know that we'll fuck up along the way
but i've got a feeling that we're winning
as i hear more and more and more of us say:
I want somethingthat's better than this.
and i'm not sure exactly what it is
but i think that we could build it
if we try together And if we all sing...

This song is about society and it's lack of care for our generation of kids. The singer and song writer, Ever Greer, sings about kids across America who reach out for help but find nothing ...they also try to find each other "through a system that keeps them apart" making it impossible for these kids to find closure. He writes about two specific people, a boy and girl and he focuses on what they expierencing right now as teenagers growing up in a generation of anarchy, how ever anarchy has died out and the boy "wonders if he is the only one who remembers what it really means". This is kind of like civil disobiedience and it is not a fierce and bold as the other song i analyzed. This one focuses more on specific details of teenagers who struggle to keep their lives in order, however the socity we live in prevents them from doing so. During the chorus Ever comes up with a plan to do something about the world that is falling apart around them, he does not know exactly what the plan is yet, but he "thinks that we can build it if we try together and we will sing" This song is sending a strong social message to teens across the country that are searching for an answer. He knows what it feels like to feel lost and alone and by singing this song he is trying desperately to reach out to them and let them know that there is hope.

SOCIETY SONG #1

Mutiny! SET YOUR GOALS

This is a full blown assault, A cannon blast to mark your fall.
Take back your discipline now, This is a genuine revolt.
Superior, you are inferior. We've risen like we've never, never risen above before.
Conformity has no authority. I can agree to compromise. Contemptible are your contracts.
I will find the line and cross it every time. Contemptible are your labels.
This is a full blown assault!Take back your discipline now. This is a genuine revolt.
I am far from, so far from romanced. There's too much business in this;
I'm going back to my garage. I have been completely disenchanted.
Turn my amp up to eleven; six nickel wound strings have saved me again.
Suits and ties are not to congregate in my sanctuary, judged only by my hands.
Down here is our time; it's innocent, yeah, and it is so divine.
Our music: rewrite not a single line. Down here is our time and we will shine.
Our music: making wishes on your dime this time.Heroes have betrayed.
We sing for better days. Don't sign our lives away,to impure industries.
You're going under! We have come to take it over!So sound the thunder!
We have come to take it over!NOW! Sign our band and we'll write you a chorus.
We will use your gimmicks if you think they will sell us.
'Cause we won't survive without your acceptance. Can we be friends?
Can we be friends? Can! We! Be! Friends!? Mutiny!
In this vast network of sharks and minnows, where the minnows outnumber the sharks a million to one, why is it that we have yet to converge? To take on the upper hand? Why have we been so scared?Well not today, not anymore. This is us growing up, still young, but no longer impressionable. We have come to pillage! We have come to burn!We have come to incite the riot!We have come to take it over!
Heroes have betrayed. We sing for better days. Don't sign our lives away,to impure industries.

This song is definatly a social message. It is all about revolting against society and standing up for yourself and the people around you. It is about being forced to live on the bottom but soon rising to the top. The singers of this song sing about rising up against rules, regulations and the "norm" way of life. They form a large group and start to rebel. They are insulting past "heros" of the music industrie who have sold out and become unoriginal. They refuse to end up that way and "sign our lives away to impure industries". They decide that NOW is the time to make a stance and stand up for what they believe in. They mock the industries that are fake and that change bands for popularity, "We will use your gimmicks if you think they will sell us, can we be friends?" This lane is a mockery of the buisness that changed the music industry by using gimmicks to sell music. By the end of the song they express how there is way more of them than there are authority and they now are going to stand up and stop waiting around, "In this vast network of sharks and minos, where the minos out number the sharks, why is it that we have yet to converge, well not today." Clearly they are ready to do whatever it takes to overtake the "sharks" and "incite the riot." Even though they are still young kids they are "no longer impressionable" and they can think for themselves and decide what is right to them.

IMAGERY 2

BRAND NEW
THE QUIET THINGS THAT NOONE EVER KNOWS
SIGHT
We saw the western coast
I saw the hospital
Nursed the shoreline like a wound
Reports of lover's tryst
Were neither clear nor descript
We kept it safe and slow
The quiet things that no one ever knows
So keep the blood in your head
And keep your feet on the ground
If today's the day it gets tired
Today's the day we drop out
Gave up my body and bed
All for an empty hotel
Wasting words on lower cases and capitals
I contemplate the day we wed
Your friends are boring me to death
Your veil is ruined in the rain
By then it's you I can do without
There's nothing new to talk about
And though our kids are blessed
Their parents let them shoulder all the blame
So keep the blood in your head
And keep your feet on the ground
If today's the day it gets tired
Today's the day we drop out
Gave up my body and bed
All for an empty hotel
Wasting words on lower cases and capitals
I lie for only you
And I lie well...Hallelu...
This song is about the memories they share together as a couple
"We saw the western coast, we saw the hospital"
Although she loves him, he does not love her the same.
"The quiet things that noone ever knows"
Nobody knows that he does not love her, but he knows that sooner or later they will end in disaster. For now he is just pushing through it.
"So keep the blood in your head, and your feet on the ground"
He is thinking about the day he marry's her and how her friends will "bore him to death".
Also when they have children "though they are blessed they will shoulder all the blame"
Meaning that they will get blmaed for the parents relationship falling apart even though its not them at all.
he is staying with her to make her happy yet he is miserable.
"I lie for only you"
This is a sad song but it proves what people are willing to go through to make people they care about happy. He is lying to everyone around him ,expect himsef. He can see their future together and he knows it is not bright yet he stays.

IMAGERY # 1

THE EARLY NOVMEBER
BABY BLUE LYRICS
SIGHT

It's a faster, growing green
Flows through these leaves
I have, I try, I guess we'll be alright
Way to try, I got a line For you from me, better nice
A beautiful, baby blue,
Sky that's looking up at you
Now watch it fade away
But it's okay We'll come around
With nights like this are never ending
I try so hard to make this perfect
You and I somehow
We can't see eye to eye together
We always knew that you worked better
I know you want it all
And you got me
Sorry I never was everything you ever dreamed
But kept at bay, for just in case that day
But it's okay We'll come around
With nights like this are never ending I try so hard to make this perfect
You and I somehow
We can't see eye to eye together
We always knew that you worked better
I don't want you to love me anymore
With my bags packed and ready to go
And nothing's ever hurt so much for me
To let you go, than to let you go
My bags packed and ready to go
And nothing's ever hurt so much for me
To let you go, to let you go

This song is about being in a relationship where you are not being apprecaited.
"I try so hard to make this perfect"
Basiclly the girl is tringin you along until she finds someone better.
"I know you want it all. but you got me"
She critizes everything her boyfriend does and does not really love him.
"we always knew that you worked better"
He feels the struggle and distance and is sick of it.
"we can't see eye to eye together"
He realizes he must move on and let her go.
"I dont want you to love me anymore"
He is very upset and hurt by this realization but he has done his fair share of trying and it obviously is back firering in his face. It is time to move on and though "nothings ever hurt so much..." he still lets her go because he knows that this half hearted realtionship can't go on anymore. The girl has a perfect image of him that is not real.
"It's a faster growin green" means there realtionship is fading faster then the change of the season. Baby blue represents the perfect sky that is also fading along with their realtionship.
